Engaging our global talent & ecosystem to innovate for social good

Social Business Innovation

Arguably, the world’s leading business thinker, Gary Hamel, says that businesses can no longer afford to continue with continuous improvement but must move to a culture of Innovation to survive in a marketplace of exponential change. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aodjgkv65MM

In order to innovate fast enough to keep pace with this change, progressive companies are moving to a social business platform where they can tap into a global talent to innovate through social collaboration. This is about the processes, tools and behaviours that help large groups of people interact and share information to achieve any common goal, purpose or task, including innovating new services and products.

Such processes find their ‘natural’ environment in positive co-creative ‘macro’  group processes like Appreciative Inquiry (AI, supported by ‘macro’ or ‘crowd sourcing’ social technologies, where collaboration and social dissemination of information are made easier by current innovations in social or digital media.

Sharing in a digital collaboration environment facilitates a “brainstorming or “ideation” process, where new concepts, knowledge and innovations emerge.  The emerging social business is a community in collaboration with all its social members to innovate new social value or good; what Tapscott calls Social Production https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWS4m3TfqVM

Clay Shirky puts this well when he says that social production taps into the human intrinsic need, not only to consume but also to share and make as members of a community working to add to civic or social good. Social business is not just about creating new value; it is also about giving meaning to members who feel engaged in that they that can be both an individual contributor and a group contributor.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDd_KE2rBQA

When both value and engagement are in place we might call these New Work outcomes ‘social good’.  Social Good is not just about business value, it is also about the journey that people are taking along the value creation road; a journey that engages them emotionally to come together to share strengths & ideas and make together.
